Hope is Rising

Hope, a new season, a cautious reopening. We are pleased to welcome you to book a seat for Easter Sunday via StoneBaptist.com/book-online

When last we wrote there was snow on the ground. Proper winter! Now, we are moving into the new season of spring, signs of which are very much on full display as we move around the village. The daffodils, in particular, smile at us from verges and gardens. Spring is here and Eynsford is beginning to bloom!

Here at EBC, we feel we are in something of a spring season ourselves with plans to reopen the church for “in-person” services as well as our live-stream (available via Facebook) are well in hand. Our plans to partner with Stone Baptist Church are coming together well. COVID secure measures will, of course, make it an Easter unlike any before. Notably the lack of singing. But hope is rising.

In the village and in the country, there seems to be a renewed sense of optimism. “Hope is rising”.  That particular phrase both seem to capture the moment and in some churches is very much the language of Easter. We think of hope rising in relation to our trust in Jesus. “Hope is rising” has become shorthand for trusting in God, recognising Jesus’ victory over death on the cross, and our hope in heaven as our home for eternity. A reminder to those who know Jesus that the best is yet to come.

But this reminder of Jesus death and resurrection only really makes any sense when we recognise our need of salvation in Jesus. The metaphor for sin and the vaccination of grace might be a little on the nose in light of the current situation but the spiritual reality, biblically speaking, is that serious. We need Jesus!

He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
